Arnold Palmer's Advice
Watch out for this hole, as although it is short it has a very difficult green. Find the right level and you may well be rewarded with a good chance to go for a birdie. Make sure you work out your yardage properly to ensure you take enough club to carry all the way to the putting surface - anything short and you will very likely be looking at a bogey or more.

This hole has one of the widest greens you will see anywhere, some 70 yards across, so you need to aim at the flag unless you want to leave yourself an exceedingly long putt! Having said that, the green is not very deep, particularly on the left side, so make sure you get the right club to land on the green and hold.

Arnold Palmer's Advice
This hole climbs back up the hill, but a good straight drive should set you up for a short to mid iron second shot. The green is considerably elevated when viewed from the fairway - the front bunker is about 25 yards short of the green, which will tend to foreshorten your view. Work out your yardage so that you take the right club to carry you all the way to the putting surface.

Measuring only 159 yards from the back tees it is still a formidable challenge although indexed as the easiest hole. Club selection can vary by as much as three or four clubs, depending on the wind and even then when you think you have it right you have to take into account the difference in elevation from tee to green. There is space over the back but if the nasty green keeper has cut the grass that day you will be in the water. And, there is some lovely bunkering at the front as well.

The card says it is 189 from the back tees, but it will play anything like 140 to 220 depending on the direction of the wind and whether there is any wind at all. The front nine finishes with a hole that will confuse and bemuse you every time you play it. And then the fact that you are playing from a raised tee to a green that slopes from front to back and right to left with some cruel pin positions.

The fifth is the first of four holes along the Liffey. The members tee at least offers you some hope of not slicing into the lake placed in the fairway, but still leaves a tough second shot. It is only 240 yards to carry the lake but you are often left with a pitch to a green sloping devilishly towards the Liffey. A definite heartbreaker!

Arnold Palmer's Advice
We completely redesigned the green to bring the lake on the left more into play. The green is set directly against the lake and stonewall on the left. And since the 4th is usually down wind, we set a bunker beyond the green. To give a good pin placement to the right, away from the lake, we added a back right shelf that is guarded by a deep bunker on the right as well as the back bunker on the left.

Arnold Palmer's Advice
We designed a shallow hour glass shaped green, with a lake at the front, that requires quite a bit of thought to ensure that the correct club is chosen. The prevailing wind makes this a demanding Par 3.

Arnold Palmer's Advice
Several years ago we lengthened the hole by 40 yards. This demanding dogleg left plays along the River Liffey. There are new trees that have been added to narrow the landing area from the right so, if you bail out, the second shot is tricky. The ideal drive is down the left side but this is very risky. The easier play is to hit a long iron or fairway wood to middle right of the fairway, but this can leave a medium to long iron into the green. The green has a distinct right to left slope towards the Liffey. You can be aggressive, but it is dangerous to do so.
